Drain Field Services in Southern Maine

A leach field is only as good as the soil under it, and the soils across our service area range from fast sand to nearly impermeable clay. Freeport's glacial sand, the deposit behind the Desert of Maine, takes effluent quickly but treats it little before it reaches groundwater. The Presumpscot marine clay under much of the coastal lowland drains slowly and holds a high seasonal water table. Water nearby raises the stakes. Scarborough Marsh, the Harraseeket River's clam flats in Freeport, and the lakes around Sebago in Windham all sit downstream of septic fields, and shoreland zoning sets the setbacks any replacement has to meet. In Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth, a replacement field often has to be raised above a high water table or ledge.

We start with an evaluation of the tank, the distribution box and the field, because a tipped box or a clogged line can look like a dead field. When the field does need replacing, the design goes through a Licensed Site Evaluator and the town's plumbing inspector before we excavate.
