Sewage Pump Replacement in Southern Maine

Pumps show up in two very different places across our service area. On sewered streets, a pump or grinder lifts a house's wastewater up to a main that sits higher than the basement. South Portland alone runs 31 public pumping stations, Scarborough's sanitary district has 23 plus more than thirty private or association stations tied in, and Yarmouth's system includes miles of low-pressure sewer that depends on pumps at the house. Homes in South Portland, Scarborough and Yarmouth are where we see that kind.

On septic properties, an effluent pump in its own chamber lifts treated liquid from the tank up to a leach field that had to be sited uphill, usually because that was the only patch of soil that passed the test pit. Rolling, large-lot towns such as Cumberland and Gorham have plenty of them, and so do lake lots in Windham where the house sits below the only buildable field area.

Either way, a high-water alarm is the warning to act on: a chamber has a limited reserve before it backs up. We check the float switches, the check valve, the wiring and the pump size so the replacement matches the lift and the flow, not just the old model number.
