Its treatment plant on South Freeport Road dates from the mid-1970s, was expanded in 2000 to a design flow of 750,000 gallons a day, and discharges to the Harraseeket River. The town's comprehensive plan data describes the service area as the downtown business district, Route One from Kendall Lane south to the Yarmouth line, and Desert Road out to the industrial park and South Freeport. The district maintains ten pump stations. Most of rural Freeport relies on private septic systems.
